SIEGE & DEEP WOUND - Boston Special

Still on the Map

Part I from my Boston-O-Mania.Siege made noise around 1984.
This LP was recently released on Deep Six Records. It contains all songs by Siege basically being their demo and 2 unreleased songs! All songs have been remastered so with 2 extra songs this should be enough reasons for you to pick this up.
Siege was a very influencial band for the Fastcore/Powerviolence genre just like Deep Wound,Heresy or Infest/Neanderthal.They played ultra-fast Hardcore with to the point lyrics and songstructures.
The last song on the Demo is also a new improvment for the genre being all slow for the length of 7:22 minutes and including a saxophon for giving the song a pretty atmospheric touch. Its somehow comparable to the song "After" on the Neon Christ Parental Suppression 7" or the already mentioned Deep Wound and their song "Dead Babies".It's astonishing that a lot of bands from Boston on the famous X Claim label including DYS,The Fu's or Jerry's Kids had a real slow song on their records as a trademark.
Drop Dead named themselves after a song by Siege.Cold War from Berlin,Germany is another band which drew their name/influences from Siege.
Powerviolence/Fastcore wouldn't have happenend this way if this band didn't exist.

As an extra here you have a report about Siege participating in a "battle of the bands" competition at their highschool.I would've loved to witness this event haha.Click on the image and it gets bigger:

Part II: After Siege here comes another classic from Boston.Deep Wounds selftitled single included 9 tracks which added new music fuel to the Boston scene and differed a lot from bands like The Fu's,SS Decontrol,DYS or The Freeze.
They were in the same vain as Negative FX or earlier Gang Green playing ultra-fast punk with songlengths around 1 minute.
The 7" was released on the Radiobeat Records in 1983 which also was a comic shop.
Another influential label from Boston around this time was Modern Method Records releasing 2 important samplers from bands out of Boston ("This is Boston not L.A."/"Process of Elimination").
After this 7" Deep Wound submitted 2 songs on the "Bands that could be God" Sampler and then called it quits. They also made a Demo called "American Style" in 1982 which was bootlegged on vinyl and included 11 songs.I have it here so if you want it let me know.
All songs by Deep Wound were rereleased in 2006 on Damaged Goods Records. The LP includes no lyric sheet or extra information. So thats a big minus in my book.
Some members later founded Dinosaur Jr.Huh!
